Mr Charis Theocharous is a practicing acupuncturist and doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Born and raised in Limassol, Mr. Theocharous trained at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) where he gained his Bachelor of Medicine degree in Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Therapeutic Massage and Masters of Clinical Medicine in Acupuncture and Moxibustion. As part of his studies, he trained directly on a one-to-one basis, under two distinguished masters of Chinese Medicine: Professors Chen Zifu and Zhang Guorui, both of whom guided him to carry out his clinical work and taught him the way of integrating theory and practice. After his 10 years of studies, Mr. Theocharous returned to Cyprus in 1993 and since then he has been practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine, integrating Chinese Herbal Medicine with Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Chinese Therapeutic Massage (tui-na). In 2001, the Cyprus Council for the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications accredited both degrees from Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and since then, he has been active in the battle for the legal recognition of the acupuncture profession in Cyprus. In 2008 he cofounded Pancyprian Association of Acupuncturists, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the responsible practice of acupuncture. Mr. Theocharous is also a board member of the Pan-European Federation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Societies (PEFOTS), overseas member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine (UK) and council member of the Working Committee for Promoting the Regulation of Chinese Medicine (WCPRTCM) of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies (WFCMS).
